Frequently asked questions

Got electrical questions?

What should I do if my power keeps tripping?

A safety switch or breaker that keeps tripping is telling you something's wrong, so don't keep resetting it.

Unplug everything on the affected circuit, reset the switch once, then plug appliances back in one at a time. If a particular appliance trips it again, that appliance is likely faulty. If it still trips with everything unplugged, get in touch and we'll find the fault safely.

Note: If you notice a burning smell, scorch marks, a hot switchboard or water near electrical items, turn off the power at the main switch if it's safe to do so and give us a call straight away.

Do I need to upgrade my smoke alarms?

Most likely, yes – if your smoke alarms aren't interconnected and photoelectric.

Queensland law requires all homes to have interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms by 1 January 2027. If you're selling or leasing, your home needs them already. We can check what you've got and get you compliant.

What's a safety switch and do I have one?

A safety switch, also called an RCD (residual current device), cuts the power in a split second if it detects current leaking, for example through a person.

To check if you have one, look for a switch marked "RCD" or "safety switch" on your switchboard, usually with a test button. Older switchboards often don't have enough of them to cover every circuit. We can check yours and upgrade it if needed.

Can you install EV chargers?

Yes, we install EV chargers. We'll check your switchboard can handle the extra load, upgrading it if needed, then install a charger that suits your car and your power supply.

Do you do commercial electrical work like mains upgrades and LED lighting?

Yes, we do commercial electrical work, including mains upgrades, underground conduit, LED and emergency lighting, testing and tagging, and full commercial fit-outs.
